Cookies

Last updated: 27 October 2026

This page explains the cookies and similar browser storage that pinm.ie uses. A cookie is a small file a website saves in your browser. Websites can also save small notes in your browser's storage, which works in a similar way, so we list those here too.

The short version

  • We only set the cookies the website needs to work.
  • We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies.
  • If you click Accept, we also count page views and send error reports. Neither uses cookies and neither builds a profile of you.
  • If you click Reject, neither runs.
  • You can change your answer at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.

Cookies the website needs

These are always on, because the website cannot work without them. They are only set when you use the feature they belong to.

  • Sign-in cookies (__session and __client_uat). Set by our sign-in service, Clerk, when a member or staff member signs in. They keep you signed in and tell the site you are signed in. Clerk also sets its own sign-in cookies on clerk.pinm.ie. They end when you sign out or your session runs out.
  • Desktop view choice (pinm_view). Only set if you are on a phone and choose "Stay on this page" to keep the desktop version. It remembers that choice for one year.

Notes saved in your browser

These are not cookies, and they are never sent to anyone. They stay in your browser.

  • Your cookie choice (pinm.consent.v1). Remembers whether you clicked Accept or Reject, so we do not ask on every page. If we change what this page says, we ask you again.
  • Desktop view choice (pinm.view.v1). The same choice as the pinm_view cookie above, for the page itself.
  • Form progress. While you fill in the join form or the 3Rs survey, your progress is kept for that browser session only, so you do not lose it if you go back a step. It is cleared when you close the browser, and the survey clears it as soon as you send your answers.
  • Member and staff areas. When you are signed in, a few small notes help the pages work smoothly, for example remembering that you have just come back from the billing page. Most of these are cleared when you close the tab.

Only if you accept

  • Page counts (PostHog, EU). We count which pages are visited so we can improve the site. This sets no cookies and saves nothing in your browser. Every page view is counted as a new, anonymous visitor, and no profile of you is built. We never count the 3Rs survey pages.
  • Error reports (Sentry, EU). If a page breaks, a report is sent to us so we can fix it. It holds the page address and technical details of the error. It sets no cookies, and anything that looks like an email address or password is removed first.

Other services

  • Payments. When you pay or manage your membership, you go to Stripe's own pages. Stripe may set its own cookies there, under Stripe's own policy.
  • Spam check. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person is sending them. It runs only on pages with a form.

Changing your choice

Click "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page to see the banner again and change your answer. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings at any time. If you block the cookies the website needs, signing in will not work.
